IUD insertion / removal – an IUD is inserted vaginally by using a special tool to insert the device through a patient’s cervix and into the uterus. An IUD is considered a long-term birth control solution because once inserted, it offers years of protection from pregnancy. IUD’s are removed, vaginally, right in the Provider’s office. During the removal, the Provider pulls on the string that is attached to the IUD until the IUD slips out. IUD’s may be removed whenever a patient desires, but all of them need to be removed after several years (how long depends on the manufacturer and ranges from between 3 and 10 years).
